Camping at Mulshi Lake

Camping at Mulshi Lake will be a memorable experience for us all. Ghost stories, barbeque, biryani, pulao (Thank you Manoj, Jaal and other), a game of Marfia.  Love stories coupled with relationship tragedies brought us close to one another at freezing temperatures. Cuddling in tents, the Chaddar fight created breaking news.  Laughter that never stopped till the other side of midnight. Yo! Say 'yo!'

Mulshi Lake
Mulshi is the name of a major dam on the Mula river located in the Taluka Mulshi administrative division of the Pune district of Maharashtra State, India.This area receives heavy rainfall. It is the hilly region of Pune, with one of the biggest mountain ranges in Maharashtra i.e. Sahyadri. Most of the area is covered with

Forest. Sag, Teak, Oak, Mango, are the trees found in the forest. Rabbit, Deer, Wolf, Fox, Tiger and Leopards are the wild animals found in this areas. Peacock, Bulbul, Parrot are some of the birds found in this area. Rice is grown in this region. Rice named Kamod is grown here on a large scale. There is also a dam in this Taluka.

Water from the dam is used for irrigation as well as for producing electricity at the
Bhira hydroelectric power plant, operated by Tata Power Company LTD. The station operates six 25MW Pelton turbines and was established in 1927. It mostly supplies power to Mumbai.The dense forest around the Dam and lake offer the views of some rare wild animals and also views of variety of trees including Teak, sag, mango trees and oak. The forest cover and the lake are habitats of bird flora and many varieties colored birds can be spotted here. The Munshi Lake and dam are really charming for a nature loving visitor.

Mulshi Lake is primarily a tourist attraction nearby Pune. The Lake is formed in the catchments area of Mulshi dam. The Dam is a perfect spot for picnic, with scenic surrounding, unexploited Sahyadri hilly terrains, lusting green dense forests and also some ancient forts like Koraigadh and Dhangad.

In 1920-21, during the construction of the dam and power station, Pandurang Mahadev Bapat, led the farmers’ movement representing the woes of the farmers who had lost their land in the process. This movement is called as “Mulshi Satyagrah” and because of this leadership he is given the title of Senapati, the leader of Army crew.
